Wheel Bearings

The inner and outer bearings found at each wheel cushion the contact between the wheel and the spindle it sits on. They're packed with grease to prevent wear from the friction produced by the turning wheels.

Wheel bearings – 1st generation
These are compact bearing units (ball bearings or tapered roller bearings) which are provided with a defined and pre-adjusted bearing clearance, “for-life” lubrication and sealing.




Wheel bearings – 2nd generation


Wheel bearing design with ball bearings or tapered roller bearings and integral wheel flange. The compact design enables the bearing to be easily fitted. The bearing units have preset internal clearance, are supplied greased for life and have integrated seals.For fixing on the static axle body in powered wheel units, the inner rings rotate and the outer ring does not.



Wheel bearings – 2.1 generation


This combines the economy of a 1st Generation wheel bearing design with the advantages of orbital forming. The wheel bearing unit is secured in the knuckle with an innovative snap ring providing the axial retention of the bearing outer ring.



Wheel bearings – 3rd generation


A highly integrated unit with flanges for the brake disc, wheel and knuckle which allow the highest possible running accuracy. Integrated speed encoders generate the signals required for steering the vehicle (ABS/ESP). The bearing clamping force is applied and controlled by FAG via an orbitally formed shoulder.
